Angry Warrior Tending a Bonfire

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring the warrior Hasuba Yoroku at right grimacing angrily as he stares at one of his companions while poking at a blazing bonfire. He wears a furry black vest with over a purple print kimono, his hair pulled back into a thick ponytail. In the center, the samurai Kinoshita Tokichiro stares back at him with a slight frown while Yoroku's wife carries in a kettle and a cup on a tray. She is busy watching the two scowling young men at left, one of whom stretches a narrow rope out between his hands. The colorful figures at set off against a deep blue night sky, with smoke from the fire drifting across the scene. From left, the actors are Kataoka Gado as Aoyama Shinpachiro, Nakamura Shikan, Ichikawa Danjuro as Kinoshita Tokichiro, Kawarazaki Kunitaro, and Ichikawa Kuzo. An intriguing design, beautifully detailed with burnishing on the black vest and the beauty's black kimono collar.
