Ichikawa Danjuro as a Magician Casting a Spell

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as a magician casting a spell, twisting his hands in a magical gesture as he looks over his shoulder with an angry frown. He wears a black kimono with a burnished pattern of squares and flowers over a white kimono decorated with clouds and a suit of armor. The sinuous body of a dragon appears behind him at left along with a red flame. A striking design, beautifully detailed.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold. A couple holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
