Okyo (1733 - 1795) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Egret with Plums Pillar Print

Shima Art Company - Founded in 1908 in New York City by Kobe-born E. T. Shima, the Shima Art Company began publishing shin-hanga prints and ukiyo-reprints in the late 1920s, working with two companies in Japan to produce the woodblock prints. These lovely reprints accurately reproduce the fine line work and coloring of the original designs. Most bear the Shima seal, a crane with outstretched wings over Mt. Fuji. In 1940, the well-known Japanese print collector Robert O. Muller bought the company, renaming it the Robert Lee Gallery in October 1940. A great opportunity to add a classic ukiyo-e subject to your collection.

Comments - Beautiful pillar print of a snowy white egret wading in the water under a flowering plum tree. A lovely reprint with beautiful soft shading in the sky and water.

Artist - Okyo (1733 - 1795)

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 3"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Glue residue on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. Vertical fold. A few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
