The Great Battle of Yashima, 1881 - Great scene from the famous Battle of Yashima in 1184 between Taira and Minamoto forces. Yoshitsune, the leader of the Minamoto forces, tricked the Taira into abandoning their fortress, defeating them during the ensuing naval battle. In this dramatic scene, Yoshitsune discovers the emperor's mistress, Lady Kenrei, cowering in the palace. She hides behind her robe as the sea winds send her tissues flying and set the lantern and hanging blind swaying overhead. A bold image with vibrant color and a lively composition.
