Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the true story of the 47 ronin, showing the ronin Kampei and his wife Okaru in their home. The beauty kneels on the floor at left, smiling happily as she holds up a black lacquer hand mirror that reflects her husband's face. He stares at her with an angry expression as he tucks one hand into the sleeve of his plaid kimono. A tobacco pouch, pipe, and tobacco set in a rustic piece of wood rest on the floor nearby, along with his sword. A straw raincoat hangs on the wall above, and rust colored curtains decorated with gourds and paulownia hang in the doorway. From left, the actors are Onoe Baiko IV and Sawamura Chojuro V. A handsome design with nice detail in the interior setting and furnishings.
