Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of the wealthy samurai Teranishi Kanshin paying a visit to his enemy, the legendary street knight Banzui Chobei. Wearing a matching coat and kimono with an eerie pattern of skulls and grasses, the samurai rests his hand atop the hilt of his sword as he glares angrily at Chobei. The street knight grips a large knife as he kneels beside a low wooden table upon which his son is sitting. The boy clutches his hand to his chest with a worried expression as Chobei's wife, Otoki looks on anxiously at left. The interior setting is nicely detailed with curtains hanging in the doorway, signs hung on the wall, and a wooden pail on the floor at right. From left, the actors are Iwai Kumesaburo III, Ichikawa Ebizo V, and Bando Hikosaburo IV. An intriguing subject with expressive figures.
