A Special Takamizawa Collection

A Special Takamizawa Collection - The Takamizawa publisher produced some of the finest woodblock reprints of the 20th century. Drawing on the traditions and methods of the Edo era, the prints were produced replicating original Edo era colors and printed on beautiful handmade paper. The printers worked with the utmost care and great attention to detail, masterfully reproducing color, line work and even some wood grain detail. Note our photos of the old Takamizawa publisher brochure from this small group that we recently purchased in Japan. The brochure dates these prints to the late 1950’s or early 1960’s.

Comments - Beautiful design of two swallows fluttering around the gracefully curving branches of a peach tree in bloom. A full moon glows at upper right, showcasing the red buds and blossoms of the tree. A lovely Hiroshige nature subject. The verse reads: Spring has come and all the streams are filled with peach blossoms. Nobody knows where Heaven is, but all wonder.
