Samurai Drawing a Sword, 1882 - Interesting kabuki scene of a samurai angrily drawing his sword during an argument. He leans forward at right, frowning unhappily as he glares at his companion. The woman in front of him raises her kimono sleeves as she turns away, while his companion stares back at him solemnly. The beauty at left carries an umbrella and wears a lovely purple kimono patterned with colorful blossoms and leaves. The confrontation takes place outside a castle, with stone walls rising above a moat with an entrance gate and right and a tower beyond. Nicely detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on the black kimono. Includes metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the sword blade.
