Tree Peony and Butterfly Garden, 1849 - Lovely triptych of beauties visiting a garden at the edge of a lake. A woman relaxes on a bamboo bench at left, as attendants carry black lacquer boxes towards her. A young girl follows at right carrying a small water pitcher, while the girl standing at left holds a tobacco set. The women are dressed in elegant kimono, the beauty's hair arranged with clusters of tiny blue flowers and ribbons. Oversize peony blossoms frame the view of the water beyond, with pine branches overhead. A beautiful design with fine detail, including embossing on the white kimono trim and soft shading in the sky.
