Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of three men on a ship, looking up at the sky as the sun sets, spreading a fiery red glow across the horizon. The man in the center holds a message written on a piece of white cloth in one hand and a small flat object in the other. His hair is pulled back into a low ponytail, and his long sword is tied over his shoulder. At left, the boatman grimaces, his mouth agape. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji, Ichikawa Danjuro, and Onoe Kikugoro. An intriguing image with large expressive figures, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft bokashi shading.
