Series; Children's Suikoden of Japan

Shibuya Konomaru, 1847 - 1852 - Intriguing portrait of the young boy Shibuya Konomaru from a series depicting heroic children along the lines of the heroes of the popular Chinese novel "The Water Margin" (Suikoden in Japanese). The boy looks up with a worried frown as he clutches what looks like a pleated robe. He wears a woven straw chest plate and a straw apron over a red print kimono, his hair pulled back into a thick ponytail with the wind blowing the loose hairs around his face. A fish lies on the ground nearby. An unusual subject and the first time we have offered a print from this rare series.
