Young Princess with a Box of Toys, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Charming scene of Prince Genji watching a young princess enjoying a large lacquer box piled with toys. The girl smiles happily as she reaches for a small bird in the hand of the beauty kneeling beside her. The box holds a ball, a fish pull toy, a battledore, and a drum with an image of a rabbit on it along with many other toys. At upper left, another woman carries in an object covered with a red cloth. At upper right, blossoming cherry trees decorate a folding screen, and blue curtains edges with yellow flowering shrubs hang along the back of the room. Wonderful detail in the expressive figures and the household furnishings. Includes burnishing on Genji's black coat.
