Comments - Fantastic triptych of the Meiji Emperor and Empress on an outing to view Mt. Fuji. They are assembled in a pavilion draped with purple cloth patterned with the Imperial chrysanthemum. Several ladies of the palace gather around them, one offering the Emperor his plumed hat. The Empress stands at right holding a fan, imposing in her flowing purple robe with a phoenix design. A carriage drawn by two horses waits at left under a blossoming cherry tree, and Mt. Fuji rises majestically in the distance. A terrific scene with vibrant color and wonderful detail, including burnishing in the Emperor's black uniform.
