Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tossho as the disgraced samurai Nagoya Sanza. He was banished by his clan after a valuable scroll in his care was stolen by the wicked Fuwa Banzaemon. Here, he looks up with a suspicious frown and he stands outside a shrine. He wears a monk's mantle over his kimono, and holds a deep basket hat upright in his hand. A nice expressive figure, detailed with embossing on the white flowers of the black sash around his waist.
