Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Koheiji's Wife Otsuka, 1853

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of the beauty Otsuka, the wife of Koheiji in an interior, grinning happily as she looks over her shoulder at a man crouching beside her. He scratches his head in a puzzled manner as he watches her, a bowl of water in his other hand. The beauty wears a plum colored kimono with a beautiful burnished geometric pattern, and she holds a slender pipe, a tobacco set on the floor at her feet. Colorful curtains hang in the doorway behind her, but the wall is cracked and missing plaster. Nicely colored and detailed.
