Comments - Incredible look inside a Yoshiwara tea house at courtesans engaged in writing poetry. At lower right, a beauty sits at a low writing table stacked with poetry slips, smiling happily as she looks up. At far lower left, a courtesan holds a brush and paper as she composes her poem. The women smile and chat amiably as they work on their verses, conferring with each other as they write. At bottom center, a mat is spread with an elegant black lacquer tobacco set, a tray of blue and white porcelain teacups, and a tea kettle on a warmer. Outside the verandah, the bright pink cherry blossoms contrast nicely with the black night sky. An attractive design with a wealth of detail in the sumptuous kimono and setting, including embossing in the white kimono collars.
