Men Conversing and Warrior after a Battle, 1880

Comments - Interesting kabuki print featuring two scenes divided diagonally. At left, two men converse in an interior, the fellow at left looking up with a surprised frown as he holds a small teapot. The man in the center stares back at him with a sober expression, his brows slightly furrowed and a cup in his hand. A helmet can be seen sitting atop a wooden armor chest behind him. At right, a warrior stands in front of a red building, wearing a fine suit of armor over a green print kimono, and a helmet topped with the paulownia crest of the Minamoto clan, which also appears on his chest plate. The samurai seems to have just come from battle, as several arrows protrude from his armor. Nice large expressive figures, beautifully detailed with a burnished pattern on the black kimono.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small losses and small tears at edges, repaired. Slight toning, small smudge at edge. Please see photos for details.
