Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scene from Shimameguri Iro no Tametomo, 1853

Comments - Handsome scene from the play "Shimameguri Iro no Tametomo" featuring Nakamura Kamenojo I as the beauty Otome Kamegiku and Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Otoko Asazuma Koheiji in a boat. Otome smiles as she looks over her shoulder, holding what looks like a small pitcher made from a shell, filled with a yellow liquid that may be sake. Her companion frowns up at her as he holds out a shell cup for a refill, a bow in his other hand. Waves crash against the side of the boat in the foreground. An interesting subject.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
