Fire of the Signal Flare: Kusunoki Masashige, 1860 - Great portrait of the famous general Kusunoki Masashige sitting on a folding stool, shielding his eyes with his fan as he scans the sky. A signal flare erupts in the distance, sending up a shower of sparks in the night sky. A samurai kneels behind him holding a fluttering banner, and flaming torches of approaching troops can be seen in the distance. A handsome design, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The first time we've offered this rarely seen musha-e subject.

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 3/4" + left margin as shown
