The Heir at the Bush Clover Palace

Comments - Great kabuki scene from of the evil magician Nikki Danjo returning to human form after having transformed himself into a rat to steal an incriminating scroll. He appears in a cloud of gray smoke at left, raising his hand above his head. At right, the loyal samurai Otokonosuke fights off a giant rat with the scroll in its mouth, bringing his foot down on the creature. In the palace above, the loyal nursemaid Masaoka holds the heir to the Date clan on her shoulder, having vowed to protect him. She looks on as two women prepare to attack each other with swords. A terrific image from this classic drama.
