Warrior Threatening a Child, 1883

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a warrior threatening a child with a sword. He holds the struggling boy with one hand as he points the blade at him, frowning over his shoulder at a young samurai grimacing back at him. At upper right, a beauty hides behind her folding fan, her long hair pulled into a low ponytail over her shoulders. From left, the actors are Nakamura Shikan IV as Endo Shogen Jito, Arashi Rikan as Inoshishi no Kuma Sakon, Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Kazusa Goro Tadamitsu, Nakamura Fukusuke IV as Kochono Naishi, and Suketakaya Takasuke IV as Ikkura Ukon. Great expressive figures with fine detail in the hair and armor, set off by a vivid red background.
