Warrior and Beauty, 1880

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a meeting taking place at a Minamoto encampment. In the center, a bearded warrior looks up at a beauty with a frown, a naginata with a black lacquer handle in his hand. He wears a fine suit of armor, his curly hair pulled back into a bushy ponytail. The beauty looks past him at the matron sitting at left, smiling sweetly. The older woman glares back at her with an angry frown. At right, a nobleman watches the warrior closely. Cloth panels emblazoned with the Minamoto paulownia crest provide privacy, with lanterns hanging from the pine tree above. A handsome design, beautifully detailed with embossing on the white kimono and burnishing on the naginata handle and the matron's black collar.
