Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Monkey Trainer Yojiro, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the monkey trainer Yojiro eating a meal, pausing to look up with a worried expression, a chopstick in the corner of his mouth. A red lacquer tray before him blue and white dishes of food, with a pipe and tobacco pouch on the floor nearby and a kettle over a fire in a brazier at left. The room is rather shabby with cracked and missing plaster, and the paper shade of the lamp at right is torn. Wonderful detail in the interior setting and furnishings.

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 9 7/8"
