Comments - Handsome illustration from the famous story of the Soga Brothers, who avenged their father's death. On the verandah in the center, the impetuous younger brother, Goro, strikes an angry pose, scowling as he lunges to the side, one hand balled into a fist at his side and the other gripping his scabbard. He wears partial armor over a brocade robe patterned with his trademark butterflies, and a black court cap. At right, a kneeling young woman smiles at him, gesturing with her hand, while the nobleman at left glares at him. He wears a black kimono and matching pants with a beautiful burnished pattern. Through the doorway of the room behind him, a young boy can be seen sitting on the floor, the shadowy silhouettes of other noblemen visible through the shoji windows. A full moon shines in the sky above a plum tree covered with blossoms and buds. A beautifully detailed image.
