Worried Beauty and Religious Pilgrim, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki triple portrait showing a worried looking beauty kneeling beside a religious pilgrim. She looks over her shoulder with eyes wide, her mouth slightly agape, clutching her sleeve to her chest. She wears a blue and gray plaid kimono, a towel draped over one shoulder, and her hair is pulled back into a knot with a few wisps framing her face. The pilgrim scowls down at her, gripping a shakujou, a traditional staff topped with a ringed finial, a portable shrine strapped to his back. A third man stares at the woman, his brows furrowed. Two small toads sit on the ground before the beauty. An intriguing subject with expressive faces and a soft color palette.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight separation at ends of vertical centerfold, a few holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
