Ichimura Kakitsu IV as Orochimaru Disguised as the Boatman Tatsu, 1867

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichimura Kakitsu IV as Orochimaru, a magician and the son of an evil giant snake, who is disguised as the boatman Tatsu. He grins cheekily as he looks up over his shoulder, sitting with one knee pulled up, his arm casually resting on his leg. His finely quilted outer robe bears an image of a giant serpent, a reference to his true self. Beneath the outer robe he wears a purple kimono patterned with bamboo and lined with a black and white check over a black undergarment and leggings. A beautifully detailed design.
