Comments - Terrific kabuki triptych of a young man emerging from a net-covered palanquin used to transport prisoners after cutting himself free with the knife in his hand. In the center, another man strikes a pose as he bites his lower lip with rage, raising a sword above his head with one hand while gripping a spear in the other. A cloud of smoke rises above his back. At left, a guard carrying an iron truncheon frowns back at him, ready to defend himself. The takes place in the woods at night, which adds to the drama of the scene. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kodanji as Miyata Kazuma, Ichikawa Sadanji as Honda Sakujuro, and Ichikawa Danjuro. A terrific design with large expressive figures.
