Nagoya Sanza, 1855 - Handsome kabuki portrait of the disgraced samurai Nagoya Sanza, who was banished from his clan after the evil Fuwa Banzaemon stole a valuable scroll in his care. Here, he looks over his shoulder with an angry frown after accidentally bumping into Banzaemon in the Yoshiwara on night. He wears a blue and gray kimono patterned with swallows flying in a driving rain, a large woven basket hat tucked under his arm. A low fence encloses a garden with a blossoming cherry tree behind him. An interesting design.
