Gokuin Sen'emon, 1860

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of the otokodate or street knight Gokuin Sen'emon, one of the famous five chivalrous men (gonin otoko), sitting on a bench smoking a pipe. He looks to the side with a worried frown as he leans back on one hand, a sword at his side and a shakuhachi flute visible above his back. Curtains shaded from violet to white to red and decorated with slips of writing form a border across the top. A beautiful clean crisp print with fine bokashi shading.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Faint crease at corner. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
