The Number 9 (Ku) for Kuemon: Ichikawa Ebizo V as Kuemon and Sawamura Chojuro V as Komatsuya Soshichi

Series; After the Seven Iroha, Supplement, 1856

After the Seven Iroha - Attractive design from an 1856 Toyokuni III series pairing kabuki scenes with numbers. These lively images feature expressive figures in handsomely detailed settings. Nicely colored, many include deluxe printing techniques such as bokashi shading or embossing. The red title cartouche at upper right appears to emerge from a demon's mouth, with a text panel next to it in the form of a scroll unrolling. The series is a supplement to Toyokuni III's "Seven Variations of the Iroha" from the same year. A great example of Toyokuni III's fine kabuki prints.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 8 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Most prints have a few small wormholes, repaired. A few prints have slight soiling or a few creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Generally in good condition overall.
