Beauty with a Sacred Jewel

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a beauty holding a sacred jewel aloft in a purple silk cloth, with rays of light radiating from it across the dark night sky. The three men surrounding her react with unhappy surprise, the fellow at right drawing a concealed sword from the shaft of his pilgrim's staff called a shakujou. The warrior in the center grips his sword with both hands, while the man at left clutches a banner draped over his shoulder. A fascinating subject with lively color and expressive figures, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair.
