Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Firefighters in Action

Comments - Fascinating scene of a city on fire with brigades of firemen attempting to put out the blaze as it spreads from one wooden building to another. In the center, firemen work atop the roof of a burning building while at right other men climb ladders to the top of an adjacent structure. Firemen carrying brigade standards trimmed with fringe take up prominent positions to call their troops to duty. Smoke and flames billow across the scene and the standards of countless brigades can be see across the area. Please note that some of the red orange pigment used has oxidized to a darker tone. A dynamic, dramatic image of firemen in action, wonderfully detailed.
