Comments - Fantastic Chikanobu triptych depicting the ladies of the Meiji Imperial court on an outing along the riverside. Three women wade in the water, one bending over to try to catch one of the sweetfish swimming by, holding her white kimono sleeve in her teeth to keep it from getting wet. The rest of the party watches from the shore, wearing colorful outer robes over delicately embossed white kimono tucked into red hakama pants. An officer in uniform, perhaps the emperor, stands at right, a sword bearer kneeling beside him. In the background, fishermen are at work casting lines and pulling nets into a boat. A lovely design with beautiful, vibrant color and an expansive landscape setting. A rarely seen Chikanobu design.
