Imoseyama Onna Teikin: Tree Sparrows in Bamboo, 1897 - Handsome kabuki triptych from the play "Imoseyama Onna Teikin" featuring the young beauty Omiwa surrounded by four court attendants. She wears several layers of colorful kimono, the hems tucked up into her waist for easier walking. Her hair is held back with a white sash, a few loose strands escaping to frame her face. The attendants are dressed in the style of the Heian era, with white kimono tucked into red hakama pants and "moth wing" eyebrows. The ladies-in-waiting are taunting the young woman, making fun of her sweetheart, as she looks back rather nervously. The steps to a palace verandah are shown in faint gray silhouette in the background. An intriguing subject with fine embossing on the white kimono and burnishing on the black kimono trim.
