Moon by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Moon

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties in a teahouse, the young woman at right entertaining a guest in a room overlooking the ocean. A tray of food and the handle of a shamisen can be seen on the floor nearby. The beauty in the center wears a blue kimono decorated with tiny leaves, her long hair falling over her back into a very low ponytail. The guest's silhouette is visible on the fine reed blind behind her. At upper left, a large full moon glows in the evening sky, and the masts of ships anchored in the harbor can be seen in the distance. A charming design with wonderful detail in the setting.
