Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Woodblock Print Envelope with Blossoms and Hobby Horse

Comments - Handsome woodblock print envelope featuring chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, fans, a white streamer, pinwheels, and a hobby horse toy with striped reins. The blue background features an allover embossed "cracked ice" pattern. Metallic pigment accents have oxidized to a dark tone. The long narrow format would be nicely suited to tanazku or poem slips, but we are not sure of the original use. An attractive and unusual decorative item.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Image Size - 8 1/8" x 2 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details.
