A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

The Chushingura - Hiroshige did several series of "The Chushingura" (The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers), the famous tale of the 47 ronin. Issued by the publisher Marusei between 1847 and 1852, this series is less well documented than some of Hiroshige's other ronin designs and is not commonly seen. The publisher's seal appears only on Act 1 of the series. Attractively colored and composed with large figures and nicely detailed settings, these handsome prints depict both dramatic and quiet moments from this classic story of honor and revenge. This print is from a variant edition with a plain border. A rarely seen series and a nice choice for a collector interested in the samurai tradition.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 8" x 12 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper and remargined at right edge. Toning, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
