Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a barber preparing to leave a home. He carries his wooden box of tools with one hand, a number of combs visible in the top compartment, and holds out a blue towel in his other hand. A young girl pleads with him not to go, gesturing with her hands, a distraught expression on her face. Interestingly, her hair is styled in men's fashion, pulled back into a topknot. The beauty sitting next to her smiles happily, unconcerned with her companion's unhappiness. Wonderful detail in the household furnishings, including a porcelain kettle sitting on a brazier at left and a wall niche holding a scroll and vase. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro, Ichimura Uzaemon as Oshi, and Onoe Kikugoro as Okiku. An intriguing design with nice interaction between the characters.
