His Majesty the Commander-in-Chief Leaves Shinbashi by Carriage, 1894

Comments - Interesting scene of the Meiji Emperor's procession as he leaves Shinbashi. He rides in the black carriage in the center, wearing a military uniform. Soldiers on horseback lead the way while another carriage follows behind. Crowds of people line the road, with banners and pennants fluttering overhead as the group makes it way towards a modern stone building at left where a band is playing. A fascinating image with wonderful detail, including burnishing on the soldiers' black uniform.
