Fuji Arts’ Winter Yoshitoshi Senso-e Exhibition

Examination of the Heads of Rebels after the Suppression of Kagoshima, 1877 - Rather gruesome scene of Imperial Army officers gathered to identify the severed heads of the rebels after the suppression of the Satsuma Rebellion in Kagoshima. At right, a commander sits in a plush chair trimmed with fringe, watching with a slight smile as a solder at left holds up one of the heads. Three additional heads rest on wooden trays on the floor nearby, a name tag attached to each. Interestingly, the man at far right bows his head with a solemn expression. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black jackets and boots. The first time we've offered this Yoshitoshi design.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Finely printed with sharp, crisp detail. From a well preserved, almost untouched collection of Yoshitoshi senso-e. Not backed, three separate prints. Nice surface condition, smooth and not rubbed. Overall very good.
