Fuji Arts’ Winter Yoshitoshi Senso-e Exhibition

Biographies of the Rebels at Kagoshima, 1877 - Handsome group portrait of rebels who took part in the Satsuma Rebellion in Kagoshima. In the center, rebel leader Saigo Takamori sits in a plus red chair, wearing a black military uniform and hat. Other notable samurai surround him, each accompanied by a red name cartouche and a brief biography. Nice expressive figures, detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms and boots. A rarely seen Yoshitoshi design.

Condition - Finely printed with sharp, crisp detail. From a well preserved, almost untouched collection of Yoshitoshi senso-e. Not backed, three separate prints. Nice surface condition, smooth and not rubbed. Overall very good.
