Taifubo Kakumyo Kneeling before Kiso Yoshinaka, 1880 - Handsome scene of the warrior monk Taifubo Kakumyo kneeling before the 12th century general Kiso Yoshinaka (Minamoto no Yoshinaka). The general sits on a folding stool at right near the base of a large stone lantern, dressed in armor and a tall court cap. The monk writes a letter, his head bowed as he looks closely at the scroll of paper in his hand. Several warriors are gathered behind him, sitting on the ground under tall pine trees, watching Taifubo with serious expressions. A moody, atmospheric scene with the tree trunks looming over the men and the sky darkening as evening falls. Nicely detailed with touches of burnishing, and shading in the night sky.
