Autumn Moon at Ishiyama

Series; Snow, Moon, Flowers

Autumn Moon at Ishiyama - Lovely triptych depicting Lady Murasaki Shikibu, the eleventh-century author of the famous "Tale of Genji." She sits at a low writing table at the Buddhist temple at Ishiyama where she began writing the novel, looking out over a beautiful autumn moon glowing high above Lake Biwa, the light shimmering on the water below. Her expression is dreamy as she rests her chin in her hand, contemplating the beautiful scene. Two small girls kneel on the wooden verandah, one gesturing at the view framed by pine trees. Beautifully drawn and colored, with delicate embossing on the white kimono, soft shading in the night sky, and fine line work in the hair.
