Ichikawa Kodanji IV as the Ghost of Iwafuji, 1860 - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as the ghost of Iwafuji in the play "Kagamiyama Gonichi no Iwafuji." In the drama, the ghost of the evil Iwafuji returns to haunt the maid Ohatsu, who killed her to avenge her mistress Onoe's death. Here, the spirit recoils as a shaft of light spreads across the night sky, an awful grimace on her faces as she turns away. She wears a black kimono with a burnished geometric pattern over a white under robe that appears yellow in the light. A red flames dances in the air beside her, a sign of supernatural activity. An intriguing design.
