Genji and Beauties beneath a Blossoming Cherry Tree, 1847 - 1852 - Lovely image of Prince Genji and two beauties beneath a blossoming cherry tree. The young nobleman grins happily at the beauty at left as he pulls up the collar of his kimono. He wears a black coat with a striking design of herons and falling snow, trimmed with a pleated red brocade collar. The beauty smiles back at him, her hair pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a comb, decorative hairpins, and ribbons. The woman at right serves as Genji's sword bearer, holding his weapon upright. A beautiful spring scene, nicely detailed. Includes embossing on the white kimono collar and trim at left.
