Comments - Attractive triptych depicting courtesans gathered in an elegant teahouse overlooking a garden filled with blossoming cherry trees. In the center, two beauties chat, while at left, three women sits in chairs, one looking up from the book in her lap as another smokes a pipe. At right, a young kamuro or child apprentice hurries away to deliver the letter in her hand. The beauties are dressed in sumptuous kimono with a variety of patterns, including a peacock, a floral ball with streamers called a kusudama, and a hawk above snowy pine branches and splashing water. A Western-style decorative railing opens onto the view below, and gas chandeliers hang overhead, adorned with colorful tassels and beads. A charming design with wonderful detail.
