The Pine of Success, 1857

Comments - Lovely scene of Prince Genji and two beauties enjoying a ride in a pleasure boat near the famous Pine of Success. At left, the young nobleman smiles happily as his companion pours him a cup of sake, a meal spread out on the tatami mat before them. In the center, a beauty waves to another woman in a nearby boat who is tying her obi. The branches of the ancient pine extend out over the water, propped up by wooden supports. An attractive design.
