Comments - Handsome kabuki scene depicting a great battle between the Genji (Minamoto) and Taira (Heike) clans. In the center, a samurai swings an iron club as an enemy thrusts a sword at him. At right, a commander stride a dapples horse directs his troops with a tasseled baton. Fighting continues all around, with ships approaching the shore at left and people watching from a tower at upper right. Interestingly, at upper left, a man flies across the sky on an enormous bird and the group includes several women warriors. A lively scene with expressive figures and a wealth of detail.
