Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Tugging on a Sash and Wielding a Sword, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a man in an interior tugging on the end of a sash with one hand as he grips a sword in the other. He falls back on one knee, a worried frown on his face. One sleeve of his striped outer kimono is pushed down to reveal a blue tie-dyed under robe, and his hair is pulled back into a top knot with a few loose hairs giving him a slightly disheveled appearance. Signs are posted on the wall at left, and a banner leans against the corner. A glimpse of water can be seen through the open shoji window. A nice expressive figure in a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Tiny loss at edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few small marks, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
