Citizens Greeting the Carriage of His Imperial Majesty and Commander-in-Chief upon His Return through the Triumphal Arch, 1895

Comments - Wonderful scene of the Meiji Emperor and his Commander-in-Chief returning to Tokyo in triumph at the end of the Sino-Japanese War. The street is lined with cheering citizens as the procession of carriages and officers on horseback makes its way under a triumphal arch at Hibiya decorated with Japanese Flags. A fine modern building looms in the distance, surrounded by trees. Beautifully drawn and softly colored, with the look of a watercolor painting. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A handsome triptych of this historic event.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with thick paper. Vertical fold in center panel, slight toning, soiling, and curling. Please see photos for details.
